Abstract
The purpose of this study will be to examine academic achievement by English learners compared both to native English speakers and English language learners not receiving bilingual education. More importantly, I hope to learn what English language learners credit to their academic progress, so we as educators may continue to develop those areas. After reviewing the literature I became convinced more than ever that even subtle suppressions of cultural differences may damage a child and cause the child to become less motivated. I hope my action research will demonstrate how relevant sheltered teaching strategies are to the success of language minority students.
