Abstract

Self-care is the foundation for being well. It is an illusion that too much information and too little time impede the implementation of health-supportive practices. The first key to shifting this is by focusing on internal resources rather than external expectations. Self-Care Essentials (SCE), the integral model proposed here, looks at the eight areas of self-care and how they already show up in one's life on a daily basis. These eight areas consist of Diet, Movement, Play, Rest & Relaxation, Communication, Perception, Energy Dynamics, and Spirituality. These categories are built upon holistic understandings of being human, healthy, change, and coaching. Through inquiry, philosophy, and practice, SCE additionally offers approaches for how to deal with challenges of self-care, explores the implications of self-care on planetary sustainability, and concludes with self-care being the catalyst for the evolution of consciousness.
