Abstract

Previous research on residential relocation generally focuses on its stresses, easing the adjustment period, and the short-term effects that may result from the experience. This study examines the long-term effects of frequent relocation on an individual's ability to make a commitment to marriage. Individuals through the process of interviewing who moved frequently as children and made the commitment to marriage were asked to recall their experiences. The findings indicate that, instead of being reluctant, participants displayed an eagerness toward making a commitment to marriage. Interviewees responded that they searched for a stable long-term relationship. Additionally, the research shows that participants displayed a steadfast commitment to the relationship.
