Abstract
The Introduction presents my art work, briefly discusses its connection with traditional basketry, and defines my final project. The Orientation speaks of my painterly/sculptural approach toward basketry. It relates the evolution from a vertically balanced basket to an arched, anthropomorphic form. The Concept focuses on the details of the plaiting technique and describes the baskets. It discusses relationships of the figurative and organic metaphors within the physical form of the basket. The section on Paint discusses how the paint can emphasize the texture of the plaiting, enhance structural movement and interact with the volume of the form. The use of dark and light.colors is described in relation to the evolution of the form. The conclusion recapitulates the concept of my work and discusses the direction I will take with my baskets.
