Abstract
Workplace violence is a very dangerous crime that no one is immune to. The media generally portrays these incidents as an employee who goes into work and murders their coworkers. This research project aims to ascertain whether or not this is an accurate portrayal by determining the most common offender-victim relationships when workplace violence occurs. The study uses raw data on workplace violence incidents gathered by the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) and the Census of Fatal Occupation Injuries (CFOI). It was discovered that the majority of workplace violence occurrences are not committed by a co-worker, but by a stranger who has no other relation to the business in which it occurred. This information is very important for organizations in designing workplace violence policies aimed at protecting their employees.
