Abstract

As women have made their way into law enforcement careers, police agencies can no longer ignore the positive impact women police officers have on the community and their agency. The purpose of this study is to analyze how women have impacted law enforcement and how law enforcement agencies have realized the importance of women police officers. A survey was conducted to determine the following: how male police officers view female police officers; why female police officers chose their profession; if female officers believe women are valued as police officers by the public their agency. The data revealed, overall, male police officers feel women are effective police officers and women feel accepted as police officers by the public and their agency.
