Abstract

Although opportunity for disabled people to make use of museums has been facilitated by two federal laws, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act :1974 and the Americans with Disabilities Act :1992, the majority of museums in the United States still remain inaccessible to the physically challenged. The purpose of this research is to implement these mandates through an educational tool designed to make museums of all disciplines more available to blind or low vision people. The hope is that such a tool will promote a change in the museum field to make museums more accessible to blind and visually impaired visitors.
