Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether existing family programs in art museums provide effective family experiences by incorporating activities that promote interaction between parents and their children. To date, it appears that no studies have been conducted on this subject. If family programs. do provide more effective experiences for families, they may enable art museums to become more accessible to audiences who would otherwise spend their leisure time at other institutions that are serving family needs. Finally, by providing effective family programs, art museums will help families toward a greater enjoyment and understanding of the world of art-- an important objective common to art museums.
