Abstract

My paintings are a quest to discover who I am, my aesthetic sensibilities, and my place as a contemporary artist. They explore the relationships of time and rhythm between people and their environment. These relationships are sparked by my interaction with the world, and my observations, memories, literature, the landscape, and different environmental styles. Evoking the feeling of music is the goal of my visual art. In painting, the brush is synchronous with the rhythm of the music and my body. Different types of music produce unique responses, from the polyrhythms of jazz to the somber, bittersweetness of classical music. Rhythm, time and passion of the piano create the foundations for these works. Figures and the island mingle with the piano at various stages. Classical music is the foundation, the narrative background. Jazz is the energetic and open. I need both for their contrast and connection to one another. Although I may have clear purpose when I begin , the finished work is never pre-determined or formulated. The paintings develop and forms from the passion of what and how I believe.
