Abstract
I used three sources of information to investigate how exhibit developers understand their adult visitors, and how they can test their beliefs: a literature review; a survey of exhibit developers and educators across the United States; and case studies of four exhibitions. Combined, these sources provided historical context for my project, a broad picture of current practices in the field, and deeper examination of a smaller sample of exhibitions. For each step of my study I imposed tighter limits in order to be able to delve more deeply into the topic.
