Surveys completed in the last ten years show that relatively little educational programming in museums is designed for high school age youth. Generally, these surveys have focused on museums other than those in the natural sciences, such as art museums and science-technology centers.7 These surveys have also focused on East Coast museums. Other surveys have reviewed well-known long-term programs, without reference to overall museum work with adolescents. This paper, in contrast, aims to concentrate on natural history museums and related institutions in California, and discuss the current adolescent programs offered.
