Abstract
It has become my interest to investigate the use of participatory galleries by adults in art museums. Based on the opinion and theories of educators who assert that active participation is an effective and valuable means of adult education, it seems logical to argue that participatory galleries will increase and enhance the opportunity for understanding art. Since participatory galleries and interactive exhibits have existed in museums since 1899, it seems appropriate to evaluate whether the adult audience benefits from this experience. The purpose of this study is to determine, through evaluation, the ability of understanding art by allowing adult visitors to touch and closely examine objects in a separate participatory gallery.
