Abstract

Enhancing the holistic wellness of clients seeking substance use counselling helps to promote recovery and prevent relapse. This capstone explores the relationships between wellness promotion and relapse prevention in addiction recovery with the intention of helping counselling therapists to effectively promote holistic wellness in substance use counselling. Following a review of the most recent and relevant literature, practical recommendations and therapeutic applications are suggested for counsellors working with this population. A framework for a three-session plan is outlined that can aid therapists in helping clients to develop a holistic and personalized wellness plan which supports their recovery and mitigates their risk of relapse.
