Abstract
This paper documents the life of photographer Jack Welpott, examines his development as an artist, and analyzes his contributions to the field of photography. Two major themes are intertwined through the paper: Jack Welpott the artist and Jack Welpott the educator.
The paper is structured in two parts. Part One contains a biographical essay and analysis of Welpott's contributions as an artist and educator. Included in Part One are many and at times lengthy excerpts from an oral history of Jack Welpott conducted by the paper's author in 1982. Part Two documents the oral history, the paper's main source of biographical information, with an annotated table of tape contents.
