Abstract
Exploring the relationship between teacher attire in the classroom and student behavior may provide administrators and teachers with information that will contribute to an understanding and the possible elimination of the rising number of student discipline problems in the classroom. Today’s teachers need to be cognizant of their appearance which may have a positive impact on students and that their overall presence in the classroom may determine whether class control is enhanced, maintained, or lost. The purpose of this study is to explore and compare the relationship between a teacher’s attire and student behavior as perceived by a selected group of elementary school teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District. This study will attempt to offer some answers to the following questions: Does a relationship exist between teacher attire and student behavior? What is the nature of this relationship? What is the impact of this relationship on the classroom environment? The remainder of this study will contain a review of the literature and a discussion on the data, sources, data collecting procedures and techniques utilized in analyzing the information collected from the survey.
