Abstract

Forensic profiling has long dealt with the tedious task of identifying perpetrators of crime based on an analysis of the nature of the offense and the manner in which the crime was committed. Countless criminal cases have been helped and solved with this important scientific technique. What forensic profiling fails to provide is a solid profile of victims. It has concentrated on the perpetrator and not the victim of the crime. Domestic violence increasingly becomes more of a problem in the United States. While there are numerous programs to aid in the reduction of domestic violence, no forensic profile has been established to help to predict and prevent future victims of domestic violence. The first purpose of this thesis is to aid in raising awareness of the domestic violence victim through a discussion of documented data. The second purpose of this thesis is to attempt to identify characteristics of the domestic violence victim in order to create a profile and aid in the early identification of a victim.
