Abstract
In order to study the individuality of barefoot shape, research was conducted using barefoot shapes from volunteers. The data consists of thirty pairs of bare footprint samples that were collected and measured for identification purposes. The study was conducted to demonstrate that a great number of class characteristics are present in a barefoot print that can be used as an additional method for human identification. In this limited sample, eight different measurements were used as the class characteristics of each footprint. Eventually, a comparison of these measurements was used to establish that, when combined, foot shape differences could establish positive identification. In addition, the morphology (foot shape and outline) of each foot was different.
