Abstract
In the scientific community, the link between violence in video games and actual crimes of violence is a question that remains to be answered. There has been much criticism in the public spectrum that violent video games cause people to do unbelievably inhumane criminal acts that we hear about on the news and in everyday life through conversation. Many studies have been undergone in attempt to find a reason on how and why these crimes are committed. In this thesis, previously published works and studies are examined to decipher where the root causes of such criminal behavior may be found. A course of studies were analyzed to examine the causes of aggression linked to video games, the significance of crime rates compared to video games sales, and actual crime linked to playing video games. The results suggested that there is a relationship between aggression in people and the violent video games they play yet show no significance between the two for aggressive behaviors following video game play. However, there is a lack of suggestibility when it comes to video games sales and violence as well as video games and crime itself.
