Abstract

My thesis emerges from an intuition I followed which concerns the relationship between a rich body of mythology from various traditions involving seeds, fruit, vegetation cycles, related symbolism, and sacred or divine principles at work in the universe. Together with intuition and research came a further realization that there was a correlation between seed and fruit symbolism and the development of consciousness. The seed's journey is said to parallel self knowledge as the goal of creation. It is with this thesis in mind that I consider my research a "journey" as I explore sacred dimensions of inner space. By "inner space" I mean not the inner dimensions of fruit as a reflection of Divine design (although that was my original focus,) but the inner space of the individual, as consciousness unfolds. It is an exploration of process and the nature of growth. It seems appropriate to learn about our own growth by considering the morphogenesis of plants.
