Abstract

The purpose of this master's project was to expand San Francisco Bay Area museum educational services to older adult populations through the development of a model interactive, multicultural, and intergenerational kit. Through a kit of this type, Bay Area museums could address the following issues. First, museums could attempt to satisfy the educational needs of ethnically diverse older adults by developing multicultural, relevant programming. Second, by creating an intergenerational program, museums could still incorporate an existing museum audience, youth, and therefore serve two audiences simultaneously. Third, museums could establish partnerships between elders, youth, and themselves by offering communitybased programming. By emulating the format of the proposed kit, San Francisco Bay Area museums should be able to provide a program that successfully includes and addresses the educational needs of older adults residing in the institutions' surrounding communities.
