Abstract
We are interdependent beings, neurologically wired to flourish in connection, and wither in disconnection. This paper explores the correlative relationship between vulnerability and authentic connection within individual, relational and systemic contexts, and examines the ways in which cultural and personal denial of fear and vulnerability inhibit connection and contribute to our sense of shame, disconnection and isolation. Practice implications are explored, outlining the importance of support groups in fostering authentic connection, relational hope, and redefining vulnerability as a source of strength.
