Abstract
Is the family of the alcoholic being treated? No is the answer found in this thesis. Exploring the factors of cost, need, system's theory, alcoholic family system's co-dependence, inpatient needs, and the concerns of limited family research literature created the thesis questionnaire, which was sent to 177 treatment facilities in California. Demographic results compiled from treatment providers' self-reports were examined in conjunction with the returns of the questionnaire. These results were analyzed and produced a table of replicated alcoholic behavior attributed to the treatment community. More questions were raised than answered concerning the professional community. This thesis raised multiple issues of accountability, of replicated alcoholic behavior, of appropriate use of interns, and of inpatient needs of the family, which must be addressed to treat the family adequately.
