Abstract
This exhibition consists of a series of independent elements which combine to create an environment that evokes a state of mind. Using a set of universally identifiable symbols (i.e., house, fence, human figure, fire) as building blocks, I have constructed an installation inhabited by emotional and psychological presences. Within the confines of the gallery walls containing the spatial limits of the installation, I have built my own psychological containers in which to capture and house my personal expression of the tensions and compatibilities inherent in human emotions. The figures embody my feelings of human alienation, vulnerability and victory. The torsos suggest the many painful trials and emotional scars we all experience and hopefully overcome to acquire strength and wisdom for the future. The structures and barriers have been erected as the "bones" to support and protect the "skin" against impending danger and fear of the unknown. They also create a pathway for the viewer and symbolize the facades we often hide behind when confidence is lacking and bravery fails us. "Fire's in His Head" depicts a personal rite of passage through life's internal struggle to survive or escape in an external world full of obstacles and potentialities.
