Abstract

Many reference books dictate ideas as unquestionable facts. This handbook is a procedures guide for art gallery administrators. Consider it a self-guided tour-book, an "idea" tool for your gallery. In six concise chapters, each phase of coordinating exhibitions has been considered, and within each chapter are checklists, sample forms, and suggestions for handling each administrative task. Also included are specific tips on office management in the art gallery setting. Much of what the handbook advises will depend on your way of operating. After reading through the chapters, take time to interpret, filter out, and evaluate the material. You may want to copy the sample forms and checklists first, and then tailor them to suit your style and particular needs. The main point is to stop and ask if there is an easier and better way. Then use the methods that work best for you. The ideas presented are intended to help sort out and ease your administrative responsibilities.
