Abstract
The purpose of this project was to identify the issues faced by university museums developing collections imaging projects. A particular focus of this project was the challenge imaging project planners face to maintain university research traditions while meeting audience expectations to increase information access.
A specific goal of the project was to identify the issues faced by collections managers (of university museums) who have been given the responsibility to conduct digital imaging. projects. The project also questions the preparedness of collections managers to conduct these projects in the face of the expectations. of multiple administrations, and with the varying needs of database users. Identifying the issues and concerns of collections project managers will inform development of additional guidelines needed to expedite planning prior to carrying out projects.
The product is an imaging project planning guide for collections managers facing complex challenges in developing image databases. This planning guide not only identifies the major issues, but describes the process of drafting of a project plan.
