Abstract

"Transpersonal psychology is the interface between mysticism and psychology. Transpersonal psychology applies timeless, spiritual Truth to the psychological problems of contemporary society. The present study is lodged firmly in this interface, attempting to establish a dialogue between the study of mysticism and the study of psychosis. Each of these two disciplines view[s] a different extreme of the human condition. Taken together, these disciplines viewing man's abased and exalted condition can greatly contribute to our understanding of each condition. An understanding that could not be reached if the study of mysticism and psychosis were maintained separately. My hope is that this study will contribute to students of each discipline learning more of the other discipline and that this will serve to advance the knowledge within each discipline."--Chapter 1: Introduction
