Abstract

There are many ways in forensic investigations to obtain a positive identification of an unknown individual. Forensic facial reconstruction is one method to use when needing to obtain the identification of the deceased. New technology, such as 3D printers and computer software, are used for facial reconstructions and are growing within the field. It is pee ae to investigate whether these methods can lead to more accurate reconstructions, whether they have more advantages compared to older methods, whether they lead to more accurate and precise soft facial tissue determinations and facial geometry, and whether there are any limitations. It is proven that 3D printing and computer software are, in fact, a very beneficial tool that is more accurate and precise. Although this is true, the methods still need improvements and in time, it is believed that they will become a highly probative and valuable method for forensic identification.
