Abstract
The purpose of this project was to create a manual about the care and handling of costume collections for volunteers and staff who often care for costume collections. A practical manual was to be developed as a single source which discussed basic methods of storage, preservation and exhibition could be used to adequately preserve costume collections for future generations to appreciate. To assist in writing the manual, time was to be spent at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum in Vallejo, California observing how one small historical institution cares for its costume collection.
