Abstract
Given there are many environmental factors that seem to hinder the promotion of women in the work place, this project used a grounded theory approach to try to identify effective behaviors that help women get promoted. This approach was used to interview six women who have been promoted within the last five years in the academic and corporate settings to discover what behaviors they believed helped them get promoted, and which behaviors they believe blocked their progress in the past. The results should be especially beneficial to women who want to move up the chain of command in their organization, and to those who are coaching or managing them.
