dc.description.abstract | The sudden death of a child is a traumatic, life-shattering event. This heuristic inquiry opens space to the voices of mothers who have experienced such a loss and seeks to understand their experience of connection with their deceased child. As a mother who has lost a child, my personal narrative is woven into the framework of the text, exploring themes of connection in nature; remembering; spirituality; loss; meaning making; and motherhood. This inquiry seeks to understand the role of language, societal perceptions and assumptions about grief, and how these assumptions affect a mother's grieving process as she experiences her relationship with her deceased child. | |
