dc.description.abstract | The yips are a psychological phenomenon that occur mainly in the sport of golf. Previous research surrounding this topic has identified numerous causes and intervention strategies to combat and treat the yips. This study was aimed at comparing and contrasting the insights from two different professional groups, (mental skills professionals (n = 8) and golf instructors (n = 8)) who have experience working with yips-affected clients. Demographical data surrounding yips-affected clients was given by each professional group. That data was used to identify groups more susceptible to displaying yips symptoms. The study used a survey method created by the researcher to collect data. Results showed that participants from both professional groups found similar causes of the yips but used different intervention strategies to help alleviate symptoms. Also, demographics data showed trends suggesting yips symptoms are more likely to occur as age increases. Future research can use this data to further investigate cause and intervention strategies. Mental skills professionals and golf instructors can benefit from collaboration in working with clients displaying yips symptoms. | |
