Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the impact of daily physical activity (DPA), as described in the B.C. curriculum, on grade one students in three different classrooms at Little Mountain Elementary School. The sample comprised of 49 participants with an average age of 7 years old. Physical fitness was measured using the Canada Fitness Award. Body mass index was classified using the BMI scale created by the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF). Results are analyzed by gender, body mass index (BMI), class, and by type of physical assessment. Though BMI classifications of grade one students did not change throughout the duration of this study, the result was that physical fitness levels of every grade one student at LME improved between October 2012 and June 2013. It appears that the impact of DPA on grade one students at LME is significant.
