Abstract

This study focused on the analysis of lake sediments. Three analyses were utilized to do so: particle size distribution (PSD), fraction of organic carbon (foc), and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The first hypothesis claimed there would be a significant difference in organic materials within the lake sediment to confine a provenance within that lake, with the expectation of the east end of the lake containing more organic content due to prevailing wind. The second hypothesis claimed there is a significant difference in lake sediments between different lakes. The HPLC analysis was not completed due to technical issues. Based on the PSD and the foc, values neither of the hypotheses could be supported. The foc. values of Bark Lake and Druid Lake, 0.36 and 0.15 respectively, may support the first hypothesis, but further research is required.
