It is with deep humility and love that I share with you a part of my story. In Creative Origins, I will outline my history and the ways in which creativity defined and supported my development. I share these details with you in hopes of bringing deeper understanding to the ways that creativity can support personal transformation in the face of challenging universal themes like depression, addiction, and sexual trauma. This will also give a deeper context to the the four phases of My Creative Cycle in the next section. You will see a colored image of each phase of my creative cycle [figure 1] to denote transitions between each phase. Please note that the discussion of my mixed-media process, TerraVita, will be longer than the following phases because the themes involved set the foundation for the rest of the work discussed in the paper. The final section, Cosmic Kids, highlights several stories from my community work with children that address the ways in which exploring creative cycles in my own process, has supported learning and connection with others in my community. I relay these stories in hopes that they might inspire us to honor and develop the wisdom of our inner children, since they are experts in using creativity to connect with the world and the learning process.
