Abstract

Introduction: This section introduces my work and discusses its connection with the history of figurative sculpture. It discusses techniques utilized in my work and describes my final project. The Solid Figure: This section describes the process and materials used in sculpting the solid figure. The emotional content and effects of color, size and texture are explored. The root process of my work is building up a form with the freedom to add and subtract weight and texture. Each piece in the Master of Fine Arts exhibition is described and discussed. The Hollow Figure: This section is the main focus of the statement. I discuss the process, techniques and materials used to bring light into my sculpture. I work with the attitude that I am sculpting, drawing and painting with thread. Thread directs the rhythm of my sculpture. Layering and thread wrapping are part of the textural vocabulary of my art. I am also concerned with the relationship between the inside and outside of the figure. Each piece in the Master of Fine Arts exhibition is described and discussed. Drawings: This section discusses the process, materials and content of the drawings. Similarities between the drawings and sculpture are also discussed. I develop my intuitive abilities through drawing. I describe and discuss each piece in the Master of Fine Arts exhibition. Conclusion: The conclusion summarizes the content of my work. It also discusses my commitments and the direction my work will take in the future.
