Abstract
This study examines the possible differences in psychological characteristics between anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) users and non-users. The participants consisted of twenty bodybuilders and athletes who worked out in the gym more than eight hours per week. Eleven of the participants had never used AAS. while nine had or were currently using AAS. Dr. Teck Hong Ong's questionnaire designed specifically to assess the psychological and attitudinal characteristics of drug users was used. One factor attitude toward drug use. significantly predicted AAS use in both a hierarchical (f (1.18) = 10.67: Q < .05) and stepwise (f (1.18) = 5.04; £2 < .05) multiple regression. thus, supporting the hypothesis.
