Abstract

This thesis is divided into two parts. Part I is a general assessment of the scholarship on Boucher in the last two hundred years. Part II is a detailed study of each of the six paintings in the FAMSF collection, organized in standard catalogue form, but freely augmented to present explanatory material. The catalogue entries are arranged chronologically, based on the certainty of attribution to Boucher's hand, with known copies ordered last. "Attributed" means that the painting is ascribed to the artist on the basis of style, but with less certainty than the simple designation of his name would indicate. "After" identifies copies of known works of the artist, probably executed at a later time.
