Abstract
This project focuses on how artists can contribute to the interpretation of objects for U.S. and European art museums with traditional collections. The project also examines the changing roles of curators and how these changes affect the way exhibitions are created and interpreted. Through an in-depth analysis of four critically-acclaimed artist-curated exhibitions, this project explores how artists who assume curatorial roles in museums challenge the boundaries of the traditional museum exhibition model. The purpose of the project is to explore the subjectivity of exhibitions and make museums more aware of their interpretations of the art and artifacts they house. The resulting publishable article will contribute to and promote professional dialogue on this important subject.
