| dc.description.abstract | Mass disaster training protocols for Medical Examiner/Coroner’s were examined in this project. The main issue at hand was determining if there was a need for this specific training. This specific training would aid the fast and in-depth response actions that occur at mass disaster crime scenes. A survey study was conducted to determine if other Medical Examiner/Coroner offices think there is a need for this specific training. The survey consisted of mostly questions that addressed the training in place presently and the interactions of other agencies in mass disaster situations. The results found most of the offices wished there was specific mass disaster training in place. The results showed a majority of offices felt they were left out at mass disaster training sessions. There were some offices that were satisfied with the protocols in place but a majority wished things could change. The survey results were enhanced by examining the mass disaster protocol used at the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. This example is introduced to give the reader an idea of what the Medical Examiner’s Office actually does in a mass disaster situation and what their responsibilities are. The protocol is in place to give a guideline of what to do and not to do when responding. Upon further examination of this office the action of enforcing the policy was absent but did not go unnoticed. The office is currently undergoing serious disaster training for a new protocol. This office was used as an example for other offices to follow in determining how important restructuring or developing this disaster training actually is. There is further research that needs to be conducted in this field. | |
