Abstract
This study seeks to create an innovative curatorial interpretation for a museum exhibition. The proposed exhibition for the Frederick S. Wight Art Gallery examines the important and multifaceted relationships of two artists and their teachers. These artists will be examined in terms of their choice of subject matter and development of style, including characteristics such as color, line, and composition, in addition, a corollary will be established between the teaching experience and the environment in which the relationship took place.
The proposed exhibition will concentrate on works executed by the artists during the period of their teacher-student relationship. The term "teacher-student relationship" refers to the academic and personal association between a teacher and his student. To provide a context for the artists' development, a selection of works executed by them during and immediately following their instruction will also be included. The exhibition, along with the accompanying catalogue, will demonstrate the integral role a teacher may play in the development of an artist's work. The understanding of this role will be facilitated by examining the work of the teacher and the student side by side in an exhibition setting.
