Abstract

This paper explores the ways that fulitime mothers experience stress, burnout, and depression from a holistic and integrally informed perspective. The purpose is to show how mothers and their families are suffering, and that there is a need for mothers to have the space, time, and support necessary to nurture themselves back to health. The author presents her vision of a healing sanctuary for mothers and their children that would address symptoms of stress on multiple levels—body, mind, spirit, and community. The paper shows that to take care of her children fully and completely, a mother needs to also take care of herself from the inside out.
