Abstract

The subject of my master's project is the use of hand-held computers as interpretive tools in United States art museums. The purpose of this study is to gauge and to introduce art museum professionals to hand-held computer technology as a potential educational or interpretive tool for art museum visitors. I critically consider bow these tools function as mediators for art in light of other interpretive tools already used in art museums as well as through case studies of experimental projects that have been attempted in three art museums in the U.S.
