Abstract
Although numerous studies have been conducted on the overall effectiveness of coaching, none of these have focused primarily on the use or effectiveness of the interview coach. This study focused on the impact of working with an interview coach for both the external and internal job search process. Using a grounded theory approach (Creswell, 1998), a type of qualitative research, this study interviewed six participants, who had previously receivei interview coaching while looking for a job. The grounded theory approach was used because it allows the researcher structural flexibility to obtain additioral data or clarification as new ideas, concepts, and themes emerge. The criterion for the study participants was that tacy have received at least two coaching sessions prior to being interviewed for a job. These coaching sessions and the job interviews needed to have occurred within the last 18 months. The study interviews acted as a follow-up to determine their experience with the irterview cacIiing process. Whether they were offered and or accepted a position during this coaching process was not relevant to this study. The goal of this study was to Jetermirie whether interviewees rated this form of coaching as valuable and, if they do, why. This study is beneficial because it focused directly on the impact interview coaching has on the interviewee.
