Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the similarities between family systems and basketball teams. Systems theory, including structural and strategic techniques, and interviews of basketball team coaches were utilized in this study. Although systems theory has been applied to other organizations with considerable success, its application to sports teams represents a less investigated area of inquiry. The purpose of the study is to supply basketball team coaches with better information regarding communication and problem-solving techniques, to help them address some of the more pressing issues of our times, such as drug use and AIDS, and to achieve better rapport and understanding with their players.
