Abstract
This paper explores how humor and laughter have been proven beneficial in the healing process. A brief historical overview correlating humor as medicine from a biblical proverb to the present will be presented. Contributions from pioneers in the field, such as Norman Cousins and Patch Adams, are included, along with research studies and case histories documenting physiological and spiritual benefits. The conclusive evidence of researchers varies. I recognize the value of humor in the healing process and propose integrating humor and laughter as a preventative measure toward establishing and maintaining a lifestyle of wellness.
