Abstract
This Master's Project is a study of repatriation. It is a subject about which museums are very well aware, calling into question our cultural institutions' relevance in this modern age. Cultural communities and ethnic groups all over the world are calling on museums to return objects back to their countries of origin. This act of return, or repatriation, makes it necessary for museums to re-evaluate their existing collections, addressing the blurred lines of ownership of cultural artifacts. For university museums in the United States with collections of anthropology, archaeology, and ethnology in particular, the topic has been one of steady discourse and debate.
