Abstract
As the number of minority groups--including African Americans, Latino Americans, and Asian Americans--are increasingly participating in sports, the availability of sport psychology services are more in demand than ever. Sport psychology services with multicultural competencies are, therefore, needed. There seems, however, to be little information on this aspect of consulting in the field of sport psychology. Consequently, it is necessary for the field of sport psychology to learn from research completed in other fields, especially the field of counseling/clinical psychology, on how to deal with multicultural issues. In this paper, information and research on as well as techniques of multicultural counseling have been gathered to determine what could be applied to the relatively new field of sport psychology to meet the needs of the increasing population of minority groups who participate in sport.
