Abstract
The prestigious Metropolitan Transit System of San Diego is one of the older means of public transportation. It has been serving the US public for the past 123 years and continues to improve its services. This project deals with designing a new Passenger Assistance concept which can be implemented at bus stops using current wireless technologies. The main objective is to design a device that will be located at bus stops to help the commuters track the location of the bus at any point along its route between the origin and destination using GPS tracking and GSM technology. Buses will transmit their location data via their GPS equipment to GSM receivers located at the bus stops. A simple LED display, containing micro controller circuits, will indicate the location of the bus as the LED’s on the display board at the bus stop starts glowing peor aine to the position of the bus. This will provide commuters with valuable information.
