Abstract
The research for this Mater's Project is an examination of the potential for introducing social responsibility themes and inspiring civic engagement through after hours museum programs. The research follows the evolution of alternative and after hours programs as modes of entertainment, audience development, and revenue generation, as well as explores the history and present practice of civic engagement ideals within the museum. Finally, this project studies these concepts with relation to the emergent model of the museum as a third place.
