Abstract

Westernized sports has evolved towards investigation into the body-mind experience, and has effectually incorporated mental training into the arena of athletic performance, strengthening the potential and level of competence in sport participation. What appears to be underdeveloped in the periodical research literature of sport psychology are the components of athletic inner awareness and spiritual consciousness, and how they might positively affect and accentuate athletic performance results. One means of athletic exploration and self-actualization is through the 0 insightful path of Taoism. The focus of this project is to actively explore the philosophy of Taoism, parallel its Eastern principles to mental training techniques and concepts familiar in sport psychology, and examine their usefulness towards optimal performance in the sport of natural bodybuilding.
